Shortlisted nominees have been announced!

A message from OUR
Chief Executive Officer

Nilesh Pandya

I am delighted to announce that nominations for this year’s Excellence Awards are now open.

The mydentist Excellence Awards recognise the outstanding individuals and teams across mydentist who make a real difference through the work that they do. Whether that is by offering outstanding care to patients, supporting each other, building and developing careers that support you and your goals, or helping to shape the way we deliver dentistry. The awards shine a light on individuals and practices who truly embody our purpose of helping the nation smile and live our People Values – we respect each other, we grow together and we achieve as one - every day.

I’m so proud that the best people in dentistry choose to work at mydentist and the mydentist Excellence Awards is dedicated to celebrating all our colleagues.

With a total of 14 awards categories including the Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Contribution, there is opportunity for every colleague at mydentist to be nominated and for everyone to take part in nominating each other. Every day, I see and hear examples of the dedication and care you are offering to our patients, and of the support that you are offering to each other.

There is no limit to the number of nominations you can make, so I would urge you to put some time aside to nominate as many of your colleagues as possible for the brilliant things they do. We’ve made a number of changes to the nomination process this year based on your feedback from last year which are all designed to support you submit the best possible nomination. Please take the time to update yourself with the changes we’ve made and to watch the short video full of top tips to help you write the best possible nomination(s).

The finalists will be invited to attend this year’s awards ceremony which will be held on Friday 10 October at Manchester Central Convention Complex and I’m really looking forward to celebrating your achievements.

While we cannot shortlist everyone, we will be able to recognise the many achievements that all of you are making through the hundreds of nominations I know we will receive and I’m looking forward to hearing all about them. Let me take this opportunity to thank you all for all of the great things you do, day in day out, for colleagues and patients.

Thank you,
Nilesh
Nyree Whitley

WHAT’S NEW FOR THIS YEAR?

We’ve listened to your feedback from last year’s Excellence Awards and have made some changes.
  1. Additional guidance - You told us that you found it difficult to complete the nomination form last year and needed support on what a good nomination looks like. We have created a new video to support you with how to write a winning nomination which you can see below.
  2. Regional finalists - All regions will be represented within this year’s finalists – This year’s finalists will feature one person from each region giving us five finalists per category (where the category allows). This means we will be able to recognise colleagues across all regions and invite them to celebrate at Excellence Awards gala dinner.
  3. Self-nominations - Self-nomination for individual categories has been removed – this year, it’s all about celebrating the achievements of others. Nominations for your own team will be accepted against team awards.
  4. Save, save, save - You will be able to save your nomination at any point and come back to it later. This means that everyone should have the time and ability to submit their nomination without the risk of losing anything you’ve worked on.
  5. People Values - During nominations for Excellence Awards 2024, we asked for all of the People Values to be displayed within the nomination for every award category. This year, we’re making it easier – you only need to demonstrate evidence of one People Value, instead of all three.
  6. Uploading photos - We know from your feedback that uploading a photo of your nominee made the nomination process more difficult. This year uploading a photo of your nominee at this stage is optional. Feel free to upload a photo of your nominee if you have one and it’s easy to do so.  Otherwise, we will contact all finalists to ask for a photo to use on the website once they are announced.

AWARD CATEGORIES & CRITERIA

Before you start to write your Excellence Awards nomination(s), take time to watch the hints and tips video which has been designed to help you write the best possible nomination(s).

We want to hear about colleagues and clinicians who can demonstrate not only their technical skills but also our People Values.

Below you’ll find the categories and the qualifying criteria for this year’s Excellence Awards. Each set of criteria is based on a combination of role, behavioural and skills-based achievements, along with our People Values.

To qualify, nominations need to hit ALL criteria and clearly show how the person demonstrates at least ONE of the values. There’s no need to meet all three People Values – just one is enough to be considered.
We respect each other - How they help support and respect their colleagues and patients. This could include how they make a real difference in the practice, with patients and in the community through the work they do or ways in which they have supported an open and honest culture.
We grow together - How they have contributed to the development and growth of themselves and their team. This could include how they have developed their own career in any way such as additional training, supported the growth of others such as mentoring or how they have shaped the way they deliver dentistry.
We achieve as one - How they deliver outstanding care to their patients, support their colleagues and work collaboratively to achieve. This could include any achievements and evidence of ways in which they have supported colleagues.
Make sure your nomination links back to the criteria to help it get through to our judges.

NOMINATION GUIDELINES

What happens next?

You have until Friday 13 June to nominate in as many categories as you wish, providing as much information as possible and meeting the set criteria for each category.

This year’s finalists will be announced later in the year with the 2025 mydentist Excellence Awards ceremony being held on Friday 10 October at Manchester Central Convention Complex.

Why should you nominate?

Only you know how great your colleagues are, so don’t hold back and nominate in as many categories as you can. Whether it’s an exceptional Dentist, Receptionist, Therapist, Hygienist or a Support Centre colleague or team, we want to hear everything about them!

Nominations are judged based on how much of the criteria is covered. Finalists are not chosen based on the number of nominations they receive, so please remember this, and use the criteria to tell us as much information as you can to make each nomination count. Any nominations that don’t fit all mandatory criteria will not be considered.

How to nominate

Make sure you have read the category criteria and complete the nomination form keeping within the 150-word count for each criteria point. Once you submit the nomination, you cannot amend it. If you plan to enter more than one nomination, you need to submit separate entries.

THE RULES

  • All entries must be submitted via our nomination form.
  • The deadline for all nominations is midnight on Friday 13 June.
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted for individual categories. Nominations for your own team will be accepted against team awards.
  • Entries must keep to the word count of 150 words per criteria point.
  • All nominations must fit the criteria outlined. Any nominations received that don’t fit the criteria or contain the relevant evidence will not be considered.
  • You can submit nominations in more than one category, provided that each entry has been specifically written to address the relevant criteria.

JUDGING

All nominations that we receive for the Excellence Awards go through a multi-step judging process.

Firstly, all nominations are reviewed to make sure that they meet the criteria for each category. If your nomination doesn’t meet all of the mandatory criteria points, it will not be put forward to the judging panel.

The judging panel is made up of colleagues from within mydentist from a mix of clinical and non-clinical roles. Categories are split between multiple judges who read and score each nomination out of 10 depending on how well it meets the criteria. All judges return their scored nominations to the Communications team who collate all nominations within their categories.

The nominations are then passed to an external judging panel who carry out a quality check for all scores and do a final review of all nominations. This determines our finalists for each category.

All nominations are anonymous when they go to the judges to avoid any bias. They see the wording that has been submitted along with any supporting information such as case studies, but will not see the full name, area, region, practice or Support Centre team that they are part of. Nominations are judged on the wording alone.

If you have any questions on the judging process, please contact us at excellenceawards@mydentist.co.uk.

FAQs

How do I submit a nomination?

It’s very simple. Make sure you have read the guidance, the category criteria and decide which category/categories you’d like to nominate in. Don’t forget to watch the video on top tips to submit the best possible nomination

Complete the nomination form for each nomination you wish to submit. Once you submit the nomination, you cannot amend it.

When is the entry deadline?

Entries are being accepted until midnight on Friday 13 June 2025. After this date the nomination form will be disabled, and no further nominations can be submitted.

Can I submit more than one entry?

Yes.

Can I submit an entry about myself or the team that I work in?

Self-nominations will not be accepted for individual categories. Nominations for your own team will be accepted against team awards.

How will I know if my submission has been received?

If you submit your nomination successfully, you will see a “thank you for your nomination” message. In addition, you and your nominee will both receive a copy of your nomination via email (providing the email addresses you have entered are correct). This means that the person you nominate will see your nomination and you will both have a copy of it once it’s been submitted. Feel free to follow this up with a congratulatory phone call or message to let them know that you have nominated them.

When will the finalists be announced?

Following the judging process, we will announce the Excellence Awards finalists on wisdom, Facebook and on this website as well as emailing all mydentist colleagues and clinicians with the announcement.

How are the nominations judged?

All nominations go through a multi-step judging process. Firstly, the nominations are reviewed to make sure that they meet the criteria that was set out for each category. Any nominations that don’t meet all the mandatory criteria points are not passed forward to the judging panel.

The judging panel is made up of colleagues from within mydentist from a mix of clinical and non-clinical roles. Each category is split between multiple judges who read and score each nomination out of ten depending on how well it meets the criteria.

The nominations are then passed to an external judging panel who do a final review of all nominations and determine our finalists for each category.

All nominations are anonymous when they go to the judges to avoid any bias.

When and where is the awards ceremony?
The 2025 awards ceremony will be held on Friday 10 October, at Manchester Central Convention Complex.

How can I book to attend the awards ceremony?

All finalists will be invited along with members of their regional support team or line manager. All finalists will also be given the opportunity to bring a guest to the event. Guests must be colleagues from within mydentist. As the Excellence Awards is part of the Clinical Conference, CLINCON25, all delegates for the event will have the option to attend to Excellence Awards as part of their registration.

What happens if I am a finalist?

All finalists will be invited to attend the awards ceremony for a night of celebration, entertainment and a three-course meal with a complimentary overnight stay at a local hotel for themselves and their guests. All finalists will receive a certificate, and all winners will receive an award as well as a certificate of achievement.

If you have any further questions that haven’t been answered above, please don’t hesitate to contact us at excellenceawards@mydentist.co.uk and we will get back to you.

SUPPORT

If you have any questions about this year’s Excellence Awards or need support from a member of the team, please contact us at excellenceawards@mydentist.co.uk and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
